Rebecca Oliver

Meeting designer and Moderator

Rebecca is a strategic systems thinker, meeting designer and moderator with a background both in the natural sciences, industry and thought leadership.

Her career spans risk management, global thought leadership and sustainability science, and includes extensive experience in leading challenging events, from crisis training a board of directors to hosting events of over 300 participants. This multifaceted career makes Rebecca a unique partner to bring content to life for participants, and to achieving ambitious goals in any sized event.

Her years at Future Earth, the multinational Unilever and the Tällberg Foundation have given Rebecca a good understanding of the many dimensions of the challenges that the world is facing. Human activities, essential to bring millions out of poverty and progress human development, now seriously threaten the functioning of the planet. This is a practical, social, theoretical and existential challenge that demands innovative approaches.

Working with the Tällberg Foundation has allowed Rebecca to develop sophisticated meeting design, organisation and moderation skills that support thought leaders and decision makers in their quest to understand complex challenges. At Future Earth, Rebecca designed, project-led and hosted, with a global team, the first conference for Future Earth. 200 people gathered from around the world for conversation, presentations, group work, beer-tasting and "hot-seat sharing". Rebecca led the dynamic programme and hosted the day - which was described as having an electric atmosphere and highly professional organisation.

For 8 years, Rebecca was part of the senior team at the Tällberg Foundation working to ensure that new insights emerged from the design and implementation of conversations, workshops and the major Tällberg Forum each year, bringing the world’s most exciting people together to tackle global challenges that demanded new thinking and action.

Before joining Tällberg, Rebecca was based in Italy at Unilever, responsible for external risk and crisis management in product development centres, training global marketing and development directors and national boards of directors. Her role was also to be an internal consultant for product innovation, legislative issues, corporate responsibility, environmental protection and corporate ethics.

Rebecca has a Masters in Science Communications from Imperial College London and a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Warwick, UK. Rebecca is an accomplished amateur musician in her spare time. She has an English father and Swedish mother. Rebecca enjoys digging into challenging subjects of all kinds and finding a broader context to understand multiple perspectives. Most of all, she likes making people talk!

I hope you have had the chance to relax after your brilliant event in Sigtuna. As always, I came away exhausted ... in the good sense. We covered a great range of topics from a great many perspectives. It left me brimming with thoughts, questions, smiles and some frustrations. One cannot ask for more from 3 days. - Bill Spence, Manager Strategic Issues, Shell International Exploration and Production B.V. The Hague, The Netherlands.

Rebecca Oliver took on the challenging task to moderate an international conference of the Progressive Alliance on 24 October 2013 in the Swedish Parliament. With many prominent speakers and over 100 leading politicians from all over the world present at the meeting, including the then leader of the opposition (now Prime Minister), Stefan Löfven. Rebecca Oliver did a fantastic job keeping the day together in a both pleasant and timely way. Professor of Music, Music Education; Affiliate faculty, African Studies Center, Center for the Study of Asia, Global Health Initiative, and the Institute for the Study of Muslim Societies and Civilizations.
